Right now, with every breath, you are chanting the most sacred mantra in existence. So — on the inhale. Ham — on the exhale. Soham: "I am That." This happens 21,600 times per day, every day of your life. The practice of Ajapa Japa is simply becoming conscious of what is already occurring — transforming the unconscious repetition into conscious awakening.

अजपा नाम गायत्री योगिनां मोक्षदा सदा।
ajapā nāma gāyatrī yogināṁ mokṣadā sadā |
— Shiva Samhita 3/43 — Ajapa Gayatri is the mantra that grants liberation to yogis always. By the mere intention of its practice, all sins of the seeker are destroyed.

The Practice

Sit comfortably with the spine erect. Observe the natural breath without controlling it. On the inhale, internally hear or feel So — a gentle expansion of awareness. On the exhale, internally hear Ham — a releasing, a returning, a melting into the source. Do not force. Simply listen.

Over weeks of consistent practice, the vibration begins to permeate consciousness even outside of formal sitting — transforming ordinary breathing into continuous meditation, and ordinary life into an unbroken thread of presence.

"The yogi who practices Ajapa does not need to seek liberation — liberation is practicing the yogi, breath by breath, through every moment of their life."
